President of Turkmenistan holds a government meeting on sports
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov organized a special meeting of the Government to discuss the preparations for the important sports events to be held in the country.
The representatives of the international organizations, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the velayat and Ashgabat Khyakimliks, the rectors of the higher educational institutions, newspaper and magazine editors, the heads of public and sports organizations among others attended the meeting held in the Olympic Village in Ashgabat.
Minister of Internal Affairs I. Mullikov, Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Motor Sports Federation G. Agamyradov reported on the preparations for the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally.
The preparatory works for the forthcoming 2018 Weightlifting World Championship to be held in Ashgabat and the events scheduled for June 3 that the United Nations Organization declared as the World Bicycle Day on the initiative of Turkmenistan were discussed during the meeting.
During a special meeting of the Government held in the Olympic Village in Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions on the preparations for the important sports events to be held in the country - the “Amul-Hazar 2018” international motor rally, the 2018 Weightlifting World Championship and the events on occasion of the World Bicycle Day that will be celebrated for the first time on June 3.
In particular, the President of Turkmenistan instructed the relevant officials to ensure the high organizational level of the environmental safety of racing cars.
The proposals on holding the international bicycle racing competitions in Turkmenistan in 2019-2020 and a forum on the cycling movement and its significance for the municipal transport infrastructure under the aegis of the UN were considered during the meeting.
As for the 2018 Weightlifting World Championship that will be held in Ashgabat in October-November, 2018, it is expected that over 2000 athletes, the official representatives and high-ranking guests from more than 100 countries will arrive to Turkmenistan to take part in the sports event. The winners of the Championship will gain the right to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
The issues on the participation of the national team of Turkmenistan in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo were discussed during the meeting. The Turkmen leader instructed the National Anti-Doping Agency of Turkmenistan and the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry to ensure the efficient doping control at the Weightlifting World Championship in Ashgabat.
