On October 12, 2024, as part of the first state visit of the President of Mongolia to Turkmenistan, high-level negotiations were held between the heads of state Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

In the morning, the motorcade of the President of Mongolia, accompanied by an honorary escort of motorcyclists, proceeded to the Oguzhan Presidential Palace Complex.

At the central entrance to the Palace Complex, the distinguished guest was warmly welcomed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Following the official welcoming ceremony of the Mongolian leader and the official photo session against the backdrop of the State Flags, bilateral high-level talks were held in a narrow format.

Having warmly greeted President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked the guest for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan on a state visit.

Expressing confidence that the first state visit of the President of Mongolia to Turkmenistan will become a historic milestone in the further expansion of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted Turkmenistan's focus on the consistent development of cooperation with Mongolia in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as close interaction within the framework of major international organizations.

It was noted that the content of Turkmen-Mongolian relations is determined by complete mutual understanding both in views on the priorities and prospects of bilateral partnership, and on global development trends. The most important factor in this is the proximity or coincidence of approaches to the problems of ensuring general stability and security and countering modern threats.

In this regard, gratitude was expressed for Mongolia’s long-term and firm support for Turkmenistan’s neutral foreign policy, as well as the important international initiatives that Turkmenistan promotes within the UN and other international structures. It was noted that Turkmenistan, in turn, intends to continue to support Mongolia’s globally significant proposals put forward in the world political arena.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that during this visit a wide range of issues will be considered and the main areas of cooperation will be identified, taking into account the long-term prospects for the development of bilateral relations.

Having expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, the distinguished guest also expressed his conviction that the current historic negotiations will give new impetus to closer cooperation between friendly states in all spheres.

The Mongolian leader noted the great potential for developing interstate dialogue, which is invariably mutually respectful and constructive in nature and fully meets the interests of the two friendly peoples.

The negotiations then continued in an expanded format, with the participation of members of the official delegations of the two countries.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed current issues of Turkmen-Mongolian relations.

Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh noted that the effective implementation of the existing multifaceted potential for interaction fully meets both common interests and the goals of sustainable development.

The parties exchanged views on current issues on the regional and international agenda.

At the end of the negotiations in an expanded format, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.

The heads of state then addressed the media.

During his stay in Ashgabat, the President of Mongolia met with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and together with other foreign guests took part in the international forum «Interconnection of Times and Civilizations – the Basis of Peace and Development», dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, which was held in Ashgabat the day before.

The first state visit of the head of Mongolia to Turkmenistan since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on April 23, 1992, is regarded as the beginning of a qualitatively new stage in the history of interstate dialogue, which is gradually developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats – at the sites of major international organizations and authoritative regional structures.
