INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF CREATING THE NATURE PROTECTION SOCIETY OF TURKMENISTAN

On October 11-12, 2018, International scientific conference dedicated to 50th anniversary of creating the Nature Protection Society of Turkmenistan (NPST) was organized in conference hall at «Yyldyz» hotel.  

The main aims of the conference were to inform public on NPST achievements in 50 years of its work, discuss major environment issues and activate relations with public and international environmental protection organizations.   

The representatives of International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Nature Protection Society of Turkmenistan, international enviromental protection agencies, employees from the ministries and agencies, scholars and experts in environment protection have attended the conference.     

In the course of the discussions, the results of NPST’s large scale work and its latest achievements were presented. The presentations on biodiversity conservation related matters in Central Asia and Europe were presented, scientific researches and separately protected territories such as national parks and reserves in Central Asian states were discussed.        

International experts reported on events organized in Eastern Europe and Central Asia by the regional IUCN  agency, Central Asian Program of World Fund for wild nature protection, UK Royal society for the protection of birds, Norway nature research institute, Michael Zukkov Fund, Program for conservation of snow leopard and others.  

At the end of meeting, the priority directions of cooperation were identified between NPST and foreign environmental protection organizations to fulfill the obligations envisaged in UN Conventions and programs regarding biodiversity conservation and nature protection.    

It was decided to activate work with international environmental protection organizations and societies as a result of discussing new forms of cooperation and further planning of NPST activities.
