INTERNATIONAL ROUND TABLE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF RENEWABLE ENERGY IN TURKMENISTAN WAS ORGANIZED IN ASHGABAT

On the 1st of August 2019, the international round table entitled “The importance of international relations for the development of renewable energy” was held in the capital of Turkmenistan. 

The representatives of a number of ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and Nature Protection took part in the work of the round table.  Also the specialists of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), OSCE, UNDP and the World Bank participated to the event.   

The presentations of the participants were focused on the process of preparing the Action Plan for the development of the renewable energy in Turkmenistan till 2030, creating the report on the prospects of the development of renewable energy in the country, as well as the preparation and implementation of the projects in the area of renewable sources of energy in cooperation with the international organizations and sponsors.  Also, the participants discussed the issues of improving the legal basis and the involvement of the private sector in the process of renewable energy sources development.  

It is imperative to note that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of renewable energy sources.  The country has convenient conditions for the use of solar and wind energy.  In recent years, Turkmenistan has been successfully cooperating in this sphere with the international organizations for the exchange of experience and implementation of the best world practices.  In October 2018, our country became the full member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
