MEETING OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE GOVERNOR OF THE JAPAN BANK FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

On the 22nd of December 2020, a meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov with the Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Tadashi Maeda was held through videoconferencing.

During the meeting, the parties noted the high dynamics of the development of Turkmen-Japanese relations on the whole spectrum of cooperation. The active dialogue between the leadership of the two countries was underlined that contributes to further strengthening of interstate ties.

Special emphasis was made on the trade-economic ties and the participation of the Japanese side to the implementation of large-scale projects on the territory of Turkmenistan, including the gas chemical complex in the village of Kiyanly, a plant for the production of carbamide in the city of Karabogaz and the plant for the production of gasoline from natural gas (GTG) in the Akhal region.  Also the ongoing construction of the gas-turbine electric power station in the Charjev district of the Lebap region in participation of the Japanese partners was highlighted. 

In addition to the continuing projects, the parties also considered the favorable projects in the gas chemical, transport and agricultural spheres.  Speaking about the expansion of the legal foundation of partnership, the parties stated the importance of the Memorandum of Cooperation in the area of infrastructure between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI).

A constructive exchange of views took place regarding the future stages of cooperation. The interest of the Japanese side in continuing the investment activities in Turkmenistan taking into consideration the current realities was stated.
