President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Vladimir Putin call for the enhancement of the Turkmen-Russian partnership

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

Cordially greeting each other, the leaders of the two states congratulated each other on the coming New Year and wished the peoples of the friendly countries prosperity and wellbeing.

Expressing satisfaction with the strategic character of the Turkmen-Russian partnership, built on the equal and long-term basis, as well as the common aspiration for the progress and development, the interlocutors emphasized that the high level of mutual understanding and trust would further provide a solid platform for enhancing the interstate relations.

Exchanging the views on the status and prospects of the bilateral cooperation, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called for the enhancement and development of the huge potential of partnership of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.

It was noted that the productive cooperation between our country and the largest regions of Russia, including the Republic of Tatarstan, Astrakhan and Sverdlovsk regions, St. Petersburg and other subjects of the Russian Federation vividly exemplified the successful development of the Turkmen-Russian relations. The efficient work of the Russian companies in the Turkmen market, as well as the participation of Turkmen entrepreneurs in joint projects testify to the success of cooperation in the economic sphere.

Highly evaluating the progress of implementation of the top-level agreements, achieved during the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, the interlocutors specified the priority areas of the bilateral cooperation, including in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian areas. The leaders of the two states noted that the complex system of mechanisms of cooperation in various sectors had been created today. The Presidents focused on the key role of the Intergovernmental commission in identifying the new forms of joint work.

Particular attention was paid to the important issues of the regional and global agenda. The Turkmen leader noted that given the status of permanent neutrality, the cooperation with the CIS countries stood as a priority vector of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan, an associated member of the CIS.

Expressing satisfaction with the efficient cooperation in the framework of the UN, OSCE and a number of other international organisations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Vladimir Putin underlined that Turkmenistan and Russia demonstrated the identity of positions on many problems of the world policy. In this regard, the leaders of the two states reaffirmed their aspiration to continue the practice of mutual support in the United Nations Organisation and other authoritative agencies that had proved its efficiency.

Taking the opportunity, the Turkmen leader expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for the support provided to the constructive initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan as well as for the co-authorship of the Resolution “Strengthening the links between all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”, which was adopted during the 74th meeting of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on December 20, 2017.

Emphasizing the importance of the humanitarian part of the interstate dialogue, the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation called for the comprehensive enhancement of fruitful relations in this sphere that is stipulated by the long-standing spiritual and cultural ties. Moreover, the interlocutors confirmed the mutual interest in strengthening relations in the spheres of education, science, sports and tourism.

During the telephone conversation, the President of Turkmenistan wished his Russian colleague success in the 2018 presidential elections.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Vladimir Putin once again expressed belief that the interstate dialogue would continue developing based on the principles of trust, openness and mutual understanding and wished each other health and success and the peoples of the two countries – peace and prosperity.
