DURING THE PLENARY SESSION THE ROLE OF TURKMEN NEUTRALITY IN STRENGTHENING THE CULTURE OF PEACE WAS EMPHASIZED

On December 11, 2021, at the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly within the framework of the International Conference «Peace and Trust Policy – Basis of International Security, Stability and Development» was held a plenary session on «Inseparable link between a culture of peace and sustainable development agenda».

During the meeting, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, D.Shlapachenko, moderated the session.

Also, V.Gutsu, UN Food and Agriculture Organization Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia, G. Varanita, UNCTAD Program Management Representative made their statements, as well as the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA A.Assavbaev delivered his speech in the online format.

A.Salsiah Alisjahbana, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Umberto De Pretto, Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union, and other representatives of international organizations addressed the meeting by video.

Speakers at the meeting emphasized that the status of positive neutrality of Turkmenistan contributes to strengthening the culture of peace at the regional and global levels.

As Umberto De Pretto emphasized in his speech, it is impossible to achieve sustainable development goals without strong and sustainable transport infrastructure. Speaking about Turkmenistan's active role in international transport diplomacy, he noted the country's progress in developing its trade potential, transport sector and infrastructure. In this context, Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union listed the resolutions on transport adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan.        

In his speech, G.Varanita noted that neutrality plays especially important role in promotion of economic development, facilitation of foreign economic relations and development of trade. He also expressed gratitude to the President and the Government of Turkmenistan for the continuous support of joint projects of UNCTAD, UNDP and the State Customs Service in the modernization of customs and trade procedures through deployment of ASYCUDA system and introduction of the Single Window for export-import operations.
