AMBASSADOR OF TURKMENISTAN IN MALAYSIA MET WITH UN DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL, EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF UN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC (UNESCAP)

Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Malaysia, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to UNESCAP M.Mashalov met with UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Secretary of UNESCAP  Ms.Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana on 31.03.2023 in the Secretariat of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok. At the beginning of the meeting Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana thanked the Turkmen side for the participation of Turkmenistan in the 10th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development and mentioned that ESCAP works very closely with Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan underlined the continuous support of ESCAP and thanked the Management and the Secretariat for the full support in adopting Turkmenistan's resolution on the Aral Sea basin during the 79th ESCAP session in May 2023.

Then the Turkmen side briefly presented the new smart city Arkadag.

During the presentation it was noted that the construction of a new administrative centre of the Akhal region in the shortest possible time is a good example of the successful implementation of large-scale programmes aimed at strengthening the state foundations, increasing the power of the national economy, improving the living standards of the population and the further prosperity of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan, stepping on the path of progressive changes, also aims at implementing the concept of "smart" cities, and the new administrative centre of the Akhal province should become a role model in terms of new urban culture and ecology.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador M.Mashalov invited the Deputy Secretary General, Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, to Turkmenistan to take part in the inauguration ceremony of the new smart city Arkadag.
