A SIDE EVENT WAS HELD WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE 80th SESSION OF UNESCAP ON THE RESOLUTION OF TURKMENISTAN "CONSIDERATION OF THE MODALITIES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL PROGRAMME FOR THE ARAL SEA BASIN"
On 24 April 2024 in Bangkok, within the framework of the 80th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, a side event was held on the Resolution of Turkmenistan “Consideration of the modalities for the establishment of the United Nations special programme for the Aral Sea basin”. The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Representatives of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to ESCAP, as well as leading experts of this Commission participated in the event.
During the event, a presentation was made by the delegation of Turkmenistan on the Aral Sea problems and the goal-oriented work carried out in Turkmenistan at national level to mitigate the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis, as well as within the framework of the Programme of action for Assistance to the Aral Sea States.
The event was aimed at raising awareness about the consequences of the Aral Sea issue.
